2023 Class

LT Robert Elwell

LT Elwell was a native of the Warrensburg area and enlisted in the US Army at 17 years of age. He served in the Korean war and was wounded in action near Chu Ni receiving a Purple Heart and Bronze Star Medal for heroic achievement while attacking a series of well-defended enemy emplacements. Returning stateside in 1951 he was the youngest Master Sergeant in the Army at only 18 years of age. He remained in the Missouri Guard and became a First Lieutenant in the 635th Aviation Company. He was only 30 years old when killed in a training incident at Camp Ripley, Minnesota.
