2023 Class

LTC Robert A. Madden

News of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor energized the 16 year old Robert with the desire to serve his country. It took two more years before he reached the age to volunteer and enlist in the US Army Air Forces. As an aviation cadet he trained as a pilot and spent over 3 years as a fighter pilot completing many missions in China and India during WWII. His plane was shot down in 1952 during a scouting mission over Heartbreak Ridge and he was captured spending over a year in captivity being released in late 1953. Upon returning to the US he remained in the Air Force and retired in 1969 relocating to Florida where he passed away in 1999.
