CW04 Wilburn Rowden
April 24, 1923 - February 13, 2024
A 1941 graduate of Vienna High School (Missouri), Rowden was drafted into the U.S. Army Air Forces in 1943. He served as a radio operator aboard a B-17 bomber and was shot down near Hanover, Germany on his sixth and final mission on March 6, 1944. Although he safely evacuated the aircraft, he was captured by the German military and spent 13 months in prison camps until his liberation by the 104th Division on April 26, 1945. Rowden was discharged from the service in November 1945 and, several months later, joined the Missouri National Guard. He retired in 1983 at the rank of chief warrant officer four, having dedicated more than 38 years of his life to state and country. In 2021, he was inducted into the Missouri National Guard Hall of Fame. Rowden lived his final years in Holt Summit, Missouri, and passed away at the age of 100 years old.

The Nominations Tab for induction of Missouri Guard Members into the 2024 Class of The Missouri National Guard Hall of Fame (MONGHOF) is now open. The MONGHOF Board of Governors is pleased to announce that we are highlighting the Spanish American War of 1898 as our area of consideration. We welcome public nominations specifying members of the Missouri National Guard who served with distinction during this all important time in history as the US emerged as a world super power after defeating Spain while also supporting the struggle by Cubans and Filipinos against Spanish rule. A key element of the war included the mysterious explosion of the battleship USS Maine in the Havana Harbor so folks may have knowledge of Guard Members who had been involved in that as well. The Nominations Tab will remain open until June 16th, 2024. Please check out our Nominations Tab here.
A great way to join us in our mission to honor those who served with distinction is by donating to the MONGHOF. You can do that by using the PayPal button or when you purchase goods from Amazon. Either method will be of great value as we continue our quest to honor those who have served our great nation.
MONGHOF Chairman John J. Sastry, Esq., CFP® announces that the MONGHOF has opened the portal for 2024 nominations. The nomination period will be announced soon and nominations will only be accepted under the “Nominations” tab on this web site.
